Movies

There are films like Sideways, Kings Speech, Slumdog Millionaire, Descendants, that platform release and end up with a strong gross.

In the case of Hugo and I know that the HSX society is based on multipliers and numbers in front of them. When I origianlly saw Hugo some 4 weeks ago I thought it would be a tough sell due to its sophisitication, very European in look and feel, and would the youth buy it.  Well when I began to see audiences this week and the big pop on Thursday, and again last eve it showed me some strength, it showed me a family audience.

Yes, my viewpoint for the HSX society is more subjective and only a viewpoint, however I have been in the industry for 40+ years. and given the run potential of this film(unusual), the award nods it will get (both golden and academy) and another holiday playtime season just down the track, another 1000-1500 runs coming December 9 and the need/fact for Paramount to support the film with continued marketing and TV ads, my subjective view is upwards to $100. This is a highly unusual film and quite impressive. I rate it as good as Avatar on a quality level.

Juno is a film that went out in a 1000 theatres and went on to $143 M--yes I understand it opened stronger, but after this weekend look at the solid path Hugo is taking as in grows.

My apology if the numbers game today do not add up and I understand that. A happy and healthy holiday season to all. And if you are a film lover, see Hugo.

Hugo will gain steam over the weekend; reviews are great, word of mouth even better. At $25 / share it is a bargain. {nm} Latinman4747 Nov 25, 05:30

Again...this is verging on market manipulation. Right now, high estimates have it at $12 million, which means it's overpriced. TheWeekendWarrior Nov 25, 05:42

Agreed, feels like manipulation (Arthur and Muppets have similar great reviews) {nm} numbersix_99 Nov 25, 05:43

Huh, with the new #s, Looks like he may be right though {nm} islander Nov 25, 06:07

Nope... this is standard for Thanksgiving. Hugo is clearly going to appeal to older audiences due to Scorsese TheWeekendWarrior Nov 25, 06:16

Either way... if you're going to make a statement like the above... show your math. (which one can do now we have Thurs #s) {nm} TheWeekendWarrior Nov 25, 06:21

Manipulation.....and HUGO is also the biggest casualty of war this thanksgiving, {nm} gogreen Nov 25, 05:46

My belief that this film with the strong reviews, good word of mouth and... Latinman4747 Nov 25, 08:16

Right, but it is explicitly against the HSX Code of Conduct to make these calls to action. {nm} dsbman Nov 25, 10:14

Weekend Warrior says only older audiences due to Scorsese...WOW...what an insult to Scorsese....this film is a worldwide hit...Yes... Latinman4747 Nov 25, 14:03

Scorsese's name-appeal to older audiences won't turn off younger ones, yet that's the implied logic ???!! {nm} Rocky13 Nov 25, 14:55

I never said this movie was only getting older audiences cause of Scorsese... TheWeekendWarrior Nov 26, 06:11

You project 100 mil? Based on what. This is blatant and unsubstanciated...again. You know, you could try educating us vs this approach. {nm} PVL Admin (Rocket123) Nov 26, 00:42
