Predator w/Rifftrax: B (Predator without Rifftrax is an A). Super 8: B+
I wasn't a fan of the Rifftrax commentary on Predator. I'm a huge MST3K fan, but this was my first time listening to a Rifftrax and I wasn't impressed. There were some good lines, but ultimately I thought it detracted significantly from a classic action movie. Also, Predator is definitely a movie that is ripe for making fun of at times, but it was weird hearing the MST3K-esque comments implying it was a bad movie about a movie that's great. It was still a good watch, but mostly for the movie.
I liked Super 8. I could definitely see the classic Spielberg influence, and while I don't think Abrams matched Spielberg's stronger work, I thought he made a solid run at it. It was probably somewhere between a B+ and a B, but I decided to go with the higher grade. I liked the fact that it was an '80s period piece and also felt like it could have been a movie that was made in the '80s with the sets and effects and whatnot.
