Sorry, it was a speech. My bad for terming it an essay.

Thank you for your comments, however, I would have to ask: at what level are you grading this? As an essay it lacks the academic structure, I agree. BUT, as a 5 minute speech it is well formulated and carries the message throughout and is convincing to me.

The reason I ask at what level you are critiquing at is because she is in the top 1 % of US children, was in the Gifted Talented program for 4 years, number 1 in her class, won all the school's top honors, was 3rd place (in grade 6) in a grade 8 writing contest across all of Texas, and when we moved back to Canada, rose to be the top student out of 100 000 her age, winning the Minister of Education's award for top academic achievement in her grade 8 year (1 award given). She is in the top 2.14% of the world's population in IQ and yet she does not write to a standard you deem acceptable... And those are not "daddy pride points", those are simply facts.

Sure, I am proud of her academic achievements, that goes without saying. And yes, she's my daughter, so I will rightly defend her, but at the same time, I am very critical myself. I don't blow sunshine up her butt when she hands me something substandard. In my "professional opinion", this does not stand up to the scrutiny of an essay, in grade 11, but the manner in which she has communicated her point is well above the level of her peers in two countries. She's not in grade 11 though, she's in grade 9. For THAT STAGE, this is a very poignant piece. I will explain why I shared it in another message.

So, I will take the hit for calling it an essay in the first place, and surely take your critique for future consideration and explanation to her as she develops her writing skill, as they are VERY good points, but I ask that you re-consider this as a speech and ask yourself, how do you think she compares to the expectations set for her level and the performance one would expect from the other kids her age.
