One could argue that any Pixar non-sequel did not match the tone/content of the Pixar "brand" when first trailers were released, but once
people saw the actual movies, the tone/content of each individual movie refined/redefined what the Pixar "brand" is- quality animated movies with compelling characters and fleshed out stories that appeal to people of all ages.
-Blue Collar Monsters -> Parental Fishes -> Family Dynamic Superheroes ->Crappy Cars -> Culinary Rodents -> Lovesick Robots -> Ed Asner...it's only AFTER you see the movie, that you can see how it fits the Pixar mold, or reshapes it, IMO. Pre-supposing that "this next Pixar movie" whichever one it is, doesn't feel like a Pixar movie and thus "is a problem for the brand" is something that even I do (I certainly felt that way when seeing trailers for every single one after Cars). And then I watch the movie and feel "yes, this could only be a Pixar movie", leaps and bounds beyond what Dreamworks or Nickelodeon or Blue Sky or even regular Disney can do.
