Theatre had about 60 seats filled and everybody was over the age of 30 and mostly in male/female couples. Stillwater, OK Carmike 10 at 12:55 pm
Tom Cruise does a better than expected job, the music is classic even though I did not enjoy the rearrangements.
My impression is that it probably a great show for a live theatre district and makes alot of money from attendance looking for audience participation. The translation to live action motion picture does not work, there was very little laughter and at least 8 people walked out before the first hour was complete.
Saying all that, I can see a cult following for those that were to young for Rocky Horror Picture Show and do not live anywhere near a live production. To sell the film as a sing-along and community party through art house theatres is a possibility. I do not see much international business. It does appeal to a demo. that still buys CDs instead of downloads (in my area) and may be able to recoop some cash in sales of the soundtrack.
I am not a typical musical fan, if somebody has seen the movie and disagrees I need to hear what I missed. It is possible that this is a genre that only appeals to a demo. and I do not understand, but I would like to; or does it just suck?
