The most basic of trading strategy still applies to everything.

Buy low sell high.  Or in this case short high, cover low.

Internet buzz, opinions, whatever got the price as high as it did.  Initially I couldn't believe it cracked 100 mil let alone 127 or 128 at its peak.

When a film like this gets to that point you STAY SHORT, period.  It would have needed to have a 47 million opening just to break even.

R ratings that aren't associated with a giganticly popular story or an overwhelmingly GREAT film in terms of quality/stars attached are not going to open to 47 mil.

Couple that with the fact that it opens the same weekend as a Pixar movie.  There is also a LOT of choices out there right now.   If someone made the argument that this film wouldn't make 10 million opening weekend I wouldn't have called them crazy even when it was priced at 127.00

When something is this obviously over priced, and opening in the relative near future you don't flip flop you just stay short and collect every dollar.

Every film is its own unique situation and you have to analyze the common sense of every situation.

This film couldn't have made 47 million this weekend if there was an Abraham Lincoln poster on every street corner.

I flipped Abraham at 116.83, when did you guys get on the gravy train? {nm} tawdryhepburn Jun 24, 11:26

Choo choo. I got on the express train, at $61. Not bad for a risk free two day gain. {nm} elchan Jun 24, 11:30

117.03. Feeling pretty good right about now. {nm} lorinw Jun 24, 11:38

120.78 {nm} Oleg Max Jun 24, 11:41

Bought the Put on Fri at H$6.00 - nice little earner :) {nm} Rednax Jun 24, 11:44

How did you know to stay short on it the whole time? {nm} Dave3626 Jun 24, 12:10

My guess is that the title of the movie was Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter LOL {nm} Borat Jun 24, 13:18

:-) well traders kept the price high for a while there. Question is, how did those who flipped and stayed short know? What was the Dave3626 Jun 24, 13:58

OK here you go. Details inside. Borat Jun 24, 14:41

I see what you're saying...And it's very helpful for furure reference. Thank you for the detailed response. :-) {nm} Dave3626 Jun 24, 14:46

No problem. {nm} Borat Jun 24, 15:04

What if they had resurrected Abe, and put him in the movie? I bet it would have made $47M then. {nm} elchan Jun 24, 15:05

IF someone found a way to resurrect dust odds are even BRAVE wouldn't have made 1 million this weekend. Our attention would be elsewhere. {nm} Borat Jun 24, 15:11

Maybe if they brought him back a year ago and we had time to calm down and he actually played the part of himself then OK, you win lol {nm} Borat Jun 24, 15:12

Good, I hope they consider that for the sequel. {nm} elchan Jun 24, 15:20

R-rating, awkward release date (after Prometheus) Tim Burton and Timur B.'s last 2 co-productions also bombed. {nm} tawdryhepburn Jun 24, 23:03

Because it sounded stupid and the trailer sealed that opinion for me. {nm} BSmurf Jun 24, 13:57

If I went by what sounded stupid, I'd short almost everything on the exchange.. {nm} Dave3626 Jun 24, 14:02

Speaking of stupid, next week there's a pot-smoking teddy bear, a guy in grandma drag, and male strippers. {nm} Dave3626 Jun 24, 14:10

Who says Hollywood has run out of ideas {nm} mrbeankc Jun 25, 13:35

125.28 {nm} Andre C Jun 24, 12:30

There's a dirty joke in there somewhere. {nm} BionicMoron Jun 24, 15:33
