I like that both of the breakout mainstream movies this weekend are the specific visions of creative people rather than projects assembled cynically by studios with directors to hire and serial writers. Soderbergh and Tatum developed theirs based on a story that interested them, and while I'm personally not all that keen on Ted (but who knows maybe it's great), it's going to have the clear voice of the creator.
I would say it's a good weekend for showing that *plenty* of people will see movies that aren't totally corporate in their derivation.
Of course I would have loved it if everyone trooped out to see A Separation or The Trip, but this is still good.

it just doesn't make sense. ALVH bombed so badly last week {nm} mickpix Jun 29, 16:21
Isn't ALVH based on something? {nm} BorderLand Jun 29, 16:25
original doesn't always mean good :) {nm} tealfan Jun 29, 16:40
ALVH is exactly the kind of cynical production I'm talking about ... Jane_Citizen Jun 29, 22:34

ALVH is based on a novel, which is why I didn't invest in it. {nm} OriginalFund Jun 29, 16:57
