Sexual orientation is very hard to pin down in surveys. Depends on how you define "homosexual," plus many people still lie about their orientation. But a survey from 2011 suggests that 3.5% of Americans self-identify as LGTB, that's about 9 million people, and substantially more report homosexual behavior (8.2%) and same-sex attraction (11%).
