In fact, Cosmopolis had its fair share of fans. But there is really no way this movie can break out beyond a small core of Cronenberg afficionados. It's more of a thought experiment than a movie: a series of talky vignettes on the state of the economy and the world. Cronenberg's script doesn't even try to construct an engaging, comprehensible storyline - he just stitches together a series of monologues. Come to think of it, even Cronenberg fans (the body horror fans, and the more recent ones) might be turned off, since this movie is actually closest to his very early work (experimental films such as Stereo and Crimes of the Future).
