Some say that. I was thinking more along the lines of bargaining, since Joss had shows he couldn't get to while doing Avengers.

The deal Joss made with Disney/Marvel would have had to be lucrative enough to make it worth delaying his own plans to accomodate work on the Avengers sequel. We all know Joss has killer original scripts that haven't seen the light of day yet, and if you've seen Cabin in the Woods, or will see Much Ado, his upcoming side film, you'd know that Joss has even more original material that he couldn't get in front of cameras thanks to the amount of work he had with getting Avengers to the big screen. It was, I believe, every bit as much about whether doing a second Avengers film would ultimately pay for the smaller, quirkier ideas he had percolating off to the side--or whether those quirkier ideas should come 1st, and I agree 110%, he chose very wisely in this regard. I think after AVGN2 there shouldn't be anything Whedon can't do in terms of getting his way-out-there stories financed for the screen. His clout, tremendous as it is now, may now grow by some orders of magnitude.

Disney Investor Conference Call: JWHED confirmed to direct [AVNG2] Antibody Aug 07, 14:25

Ahh, Marc Graser reports for Variety Antibody Aug 07, 14:28

Now Deadline has it. Exciting stuff, being that Whedon expressed doubt at this past Comic-Con over coming back. Marvel/Disney's gain. eallensbp Aug 07, 14:36

Disney should do like Warners did, use Avengers to go into the Joss Whedon business like Batman and Nolan {nm} LanceStorm22 Aug 07, 18:46

You seriously can't be comparing Nolan to Whedon? Nolan is at least 100X the filmmaker TV refuge Whedon is. {nm} MrSmitherz Aug 07, 20:50

box-office-wise, I think Whedon is now comparable to Nolan {nm} tealfan Aug 07, 22:28

he needs something original to be a big hit before Whedon's on Nolan's level {nm} robb1138 Aug 08, 05:10

Yeah cause no one ever did a Batman movie. {nm} tenchi7 Aug 08, 08:27

He means movies like Inception. Whedon only has Marvel property that is a hit {nm} warclock Aug 08, 09:45

Stylistically they're apples and oranges, but both are very good story tellers, and Whedon's probably the better writer... LanceStorm22 Aug 08, 00:16

I can't help but laugh remembering a thread here on how awful an idea it was to have JWHED direct the first one. {nm} mrbeankc Aug 07, 15:42

Can't wait for another mediocre, bland-looking movie! {nm} MrSmitherz Aug 07, 17:13

is that what the 1.4 billion dollar movie was? {nm} nicadmous Aug 09, 12:31
