Maybe some of our insiders could shed some light, but my take on these is that they were unable to find enough theaters willing to commit to
a minimum 2-week engagement, so they are going to try opening in just a few to show there is demand for it.
In this case, I doubt there will be much demand since it seems to be an over-done plot with unproven actors. It could be saved by great reviews, but that seems a distant possibility.
