indeed, but May is always jam packed. I can see your point though. these numbers show like the Potter

and Twilight films, meaning that it is mostly Trekkies supporting this and it didn't gain as many fans outside of that world as I (we) would have thought.

at the end of the day I don't view the TREK films as the Star Trek of old, I view them as good action films (say that not having seen this one yet).

they're easily going to make their budget back, so I'm confident the series will move on just fine.Ā  it's clear however this one fooled the traders and given the facts we had to work with it seemed a no brainer of 4day 100M+

so here's a good question... lobogotti May 18, 07:53

I think it's stuck between a rock (IRNM3) and a hard place (FAST6/HNOV3) and people who aren't die hard (contd) whitewalls May 18, 07:58

Hasn't its overseas performance been outpacing TREK1's, too? So, outside North America, it seems to be passing a certain test... second gary May 18, 08:06

good points {nm} lobogotti May 18, 08:10

I think it is the same type of situation that we had with watchmen/kick-ass/scott pilgrim... whitewalls May 18, 08:45

in some ways yes, but I would be more inclined to think that way if this weren't a sequel to an already lobogotti May 18, 08:51

I think we all assumed that the first movie converted a bunch of people who weren't previously Trek fans (contd) whitewalls May 18, 08:57

you have a "guy"? awesome, where can I get one ;) no, I think there is some truth in that. I expect mike255 any minute now lobogotti May 18, 08:59

Lol.. Yeah. and I know I'm not the first to mention the desire for a *edit* button... my GUT tells me others would like it... {nm} whitewalls May 18, 09:02

lol.. I'm by far the worst offender. en edit button is more than welcome here {nm} lobogotti May 18, 09:08

I'd go see Trek, but I'm going to wait for the crowds to subside. I'll wait till Fast6 is on HBO and I don't feel like another HNOV3 {nm} Steved1998 May 18, 08:48

Trekkies suck... :) {nm} slappydavid May 18, 08:02

ha! have you seen the documentaries on Trekkies... good stuff {nm} lobogotti May 18, 08:13

Let me give a more serious answer slappydavid May 18, 08:35

keeping the film ultimately flat or actually lower given the less foot traffic on a "per day" basis. {nm} lobogotti May 18, 08:40

Here is a thought, at least around here. Tons of people are getting their gardens planted this weekend although it is a long weekend here mysti HSX May 18, 08:02

had my crew out here last weekend, but yes, it's a landscape out here today. lot of mulch and plants about the hood right now. {nm} lobogotti May 18, 08:11

i had already seen this movie charlie May 18, 08:06

interesting take, but I assume that means you did not see TREK1 in theaters? or are you saying you lobogotti May 18, 08:12

no i saw the 2009 one in theaters, which already gave me pause for anything truly great from this one {nm} charlie May 18, 08:17

are you a Trek fan? or a Trekkie even? I really enjoyed TREK1 which will have me at TREK2 sometime this weekend. lobogotti May 18, 08:25

i've been a Trek fan since i was 5 years old. JJ's version of Trek is just a bunch of crap blowing up real good charlie May 18, 08:32

I'll pay close attention to that on this new one. Interestingly I have only seen 2009 once, so I'm having a hard time remember lobogotti May 18, 08:38

I agree. {nm} DTravel May 18, 10:18

Trek movies prior to the Jj {nm} Oleg Max May 18, 08:15

so you're saying we picked up the new fans from an action based film, but actually lost a lot of Trekkies lobogotti May 18, 08:18

Or the other way around. Gfb might have came out just because they are fans and cannot help themselves, while Oleg Max May 18, 08:24

could very well be. the only thing I have to go off in that regard was how much I geeked out at these new trailers lobogotti May 18, 08:27

That would fit with the talk I hear. {nm} DTravel May 18, 10:19

Trek movies prior to JJ re-boot were not that popular to begin with. Re-boot raised the stakes, now it's fallen back to its Oleg Max May 18, 08:17

I can see some of that, but then you have Casino Royale, Quantum and Skyfall lobogotti May 18, 08:23

i went to BOM and adjusted older Trek films for inflation. Highest one in today's dollars still came in @ Oleg Max May 18, 08:49

Nolan has the Midas Touch, but I would like to see a Duncan Jones Trek movie too {nm} lobogotti May 18, 08:52

bottom line is this... somebody didn't come out that was supposed to. the studio needs to find out who that was and address it for the 3rd lobogotti May 18, 08:42

Everyone who, after 4 yrs, wasn't interested in Khan Again and Darkness. Do parents want to take their kids to an Into Darkness movie? {nm} KalElFan May 18, 11:23

Especially for Star Trek, which is more about hope, light. etc. The title could have been worse, Star Trek Down the Toilet. But still. {nm} KalElFan May 18, 11:25

Well, I'm dying to see it, but I'm busy graduating this weekend. Maybe there's a bunch of 21-year-olds in the same boat? {nm} 4815162342 May 18, 08:44

you can treat yourself to a late night viewing! and congrats graduate! {nm} lobogotti May 18, 08:48

maybe people took a chance on the first, and it simply isnt top tier tentpole material. still its on its way to 200M, not too shabby. islander May 18, 09:52

yeah, they are going to gain ground on international this time around, so that's going to help. lobogotti May 18, 10:18
