He knows there's an audience for these types of movies, but they're typically so heavy-handed that they can't cross over into the mainstream. If Producers could find a script with a strong message, without the blunt in-your-face themes that are usually in Cameron's (and other religious) films, they could make a lot more money.
But good on Cameron. Make them cheap and use the churches for free publicity with the "if you're a good Christian you'll go see this film" as my parents were told in their church. This was the same church that told them to go see THE BLIND SIDE as it showed what a good Christian with extra wealth could do to make the difference in a person's life.
