Any given RT review is one opinion, any given IMDd vote one vote, any given ticket bought one ticket, and individual decisions about HSX...

transactions are one player's and so on. But aggregate and consensus indicators, related numbers and the like are facts. If that offends anyone, too bad but so be it. They're entitled to their own opinions but not their own facts. Facts are facts.

That's not to say that persuasive arguments and the like don't matter, including about how relevant a particular fact is.  RT is the #272 site in the U.S. for example, IMDb is #27, HSX is 10,873 as I write this. Joe Blathermouth's site may get 7 regulars a month mouthing off .

RT is widely referred to for critical consensus. IMDb is a source for various movie-related data including its poll. It's self-selected, but voters have to be registered.

I like HSX and it's a reasonable assumption that most active players around here do. There are probably at least 10,000+ occasional players, 1,000+ any given Saturday who might buy a popular IPO, and 100+ participating on the board and more reading. They tend to be more interested in movies and in particular box office than the average person.  So I think the HSX price can also be a relevant number and at any given time it's an aggregate or consensus fact just like the RT or IMDb scores.

Box office gross numbers, domestic and foreign, are facts.  And there are many other facts.

Along might come 1, 2, or 7 HSXers (or posters on any board including Joe Blathermouth's) who hate movie A. Worst. Movie. Ever. They might insist, along with a stream of other ranting. But it's only a "fact" that it's their hatin' opinion.  99.99% of the time it's just hatin' b.s. that the consensus market for the movie disagrees with, and the various relevant facts prove it.

To the hater, their hatin' opinion is sacrosanct and it's "right" for them.  But if they get together in a thread or on a board and start deluding themselves into thinking they're representative, and suggesting to others that it's representative, it's fair (IMO!) to point out the facts and that they're completely full of crap. :-)

For anyone on the Jack Ryan-bashing bandwagon... (BoM link, RT, a few box office and other comments) KalElFan Jan 19, 12:00

I really like CPINE. I just want Jack Ryan to have a low OW so I can make a few bucks. After that... it can do well if it can. jakemongoose Jan 19, 12:25

It's all halted now of course. Looks to me like the main stock will be a slight long, the OW and Call shorts, Put long. {nm} KalElFan Jan 19, 13:24

That would work ;p {nm} jakemongoose Jan 19, 13:44

According to BOM estimates, it looks to be -4.48 {nm} PVL Admin Jan 19, 15:30

There is no one pushing for a sequel at Paramount but it looks like international is doing well {nm} notfabio Jan 19, 12:58

This was actually an unrelated spec script Moscow that was rewritten into a Jack Ryan film. Die Hard 3 and 4 similarly were based on specs {nm} notfabio Jan 19, 13:02

I recall that original Moscow title now that you mention it. Boxofficemojo also has the early $22.2M Foreign up on the summary pg now. {nm} KalElFan Jan 19, 13:10

I read that both Die Hards 1 and 2 were both not originally designed to be Die Hard films as well. Jay_Beezy Jan 19, 14:49

Here's the link to the current 3,313 IMDb votes, 27.3% 7/10 and 18.7% 6/10, 17.5% 8/10, 13.2% 10/10, 3.4% 1/10 {nm} KalElFan Jan 19, 13:44

I've seen it. Don't need to cite critic reviews to me. It's awful. It's completely worthy of all the scorn it gets. thatpj Jan 19, 13:01

Just citing facts mostly, pj. Your opinion is valid for you, but the consensus and numbers are what they are. Remember... KalElFan Jan 19, 13:15

I could also say that it lost out to a purple squirrel movie too, if you want to "cite facts". thatpj Jan 19, 13:48

Good snark. :-) But I say kudos to the little critter for bucking its 13% RT. :-) {nm} KalElFan Jan 19, 14:15

And point proven that RT is nothing more than opinions, certainly not fact. Nothing that would sway my stock holdings any more billy75 Jan 19, 14:31

Any given RT review is one opinion, any given IMDd vote one vote, any given ticket bought one ticket, and individual decisions about HSX... KalElFan Jan 20, 00:42

Critic reviews are only useful to me when I find one that I mostly agree with over and over again. Otherwise it's just one opinion. {nm} PVL Admin Jan 19, 15:31

It's #1 in China... {nm} PVL Admin Jan 19, 15:26

There's No Bigger Clancy Fan Than Me... {nm} gowanna Jan 20, 00:19
