Why would it be cut? Why would one of the best films of the year have to go through editing before being released here?

Posted by: goodvibe61 on Jul 12, 15:15 in response to Moviesnob's post not true. Plus you are forgetting that Snowpiercer would...

The Weinsteins have done this to foreign films for years.

The only mystery to me is why they bother purchasing the distribution rights to these films in the first place. It truly boggles the mind at this point.

I"m just about done on this subject regarding this movie. As I've said, it makes me sick. People complain and wonder just what's happened to movies these days. When something finally does come around that's original (and i don't want to hear about whether the story is derivitive; the movie is not a sequel, it's not a prequel, it's not the umpteenth in a series), that requires attention be paid to follow what's going on, that is highly regarded by critics and the film community, and the film doesn't even get a chance to be seen.

Video on demand. Give me a break.

We deserve the movies we get. So I guess it's time to go watch Tammy, right?

What I'd like to know is how SNWPC did yesterday. BOM reports it added 106 screens. :) {nm} second gary Jul 12, 11:36

DL saying around 600k for the wknd, cume 2.6; VOD has an impact apparently :) Oleg Max Jul 12, 11:42

its down from last week {nm} Moviesnob Jul 12, 11:42

For theaters/VOD release, it seems like it is more difficult to make the film work both in the theaters and on VOD. {nm} Peterlee Jul 12, 12:10

(For theaters/VOD "day-and-date" release) {nm} Peterlee Jul 12, 12:11

its different audiences, so it happens. Some people like theaters. Some people like VOD. Main problem is you limit the theaters you can Moviesnob Jul 12, 12:18

Even Landmark theaters stop showing "day-and-date" releases (except Magnolia's releases) {nm} Peterlee Jul 12, 12:23

they have a a rev share deal with IFC too. Alamo plays collapsed releases and does well with them. {nm} Moviesnob Jul 12, 12:26

Oh.... sorry for my mistake.... {nm} Peterlee Jul 12, 12:31

It seem like even Roadside stop spending good money to release their "day-and-date release" theatrically {nm} Peterlee Jul 12, 12:25

because they lost money on four walling. {nm} Moviesnob Jul 12, 12:27

"A Most Wanted Man" could have benefited from "Snowpiercer"-like release strategy, but Roadside choose to do other way {nm} Peterlee Jul 12, 12:35

That said, I think "Being Again"-like release strategy would be better for "Snowpiercer" {nm} Peterlee Jul 12, 12:37

we wont know until we hear the VOD numbers {nm} Moviesnob Jul 12, 12:41

A film 's theatrical release would have impact on the film's vod numbers?.... Peterlee Jul 12, 12:49

not true. Plus you are forgetting that Snowpiercer would have been cut and given voice over with that release which no one wanted. Moviesnob Jul 12, 12:53

Why would it be cut? Why would one of the best films of the year have to go through editing before being released here? goodvibe61 Jul 12, 15:15

The thing that folks don't mention it seems is that VOD makes it available to burners. On a movie of this size (profit), that is a decent %. {nm} CrockettsMafiaYTD2014 Jul 12, 14:19

...lost because the hardcore fans found it quicker on bittorrent. Sucks, but it's true. {nm} CrockettsMafiaYTD2014 Jul 12, 14:20

It's been on pirate sights cause it's already available in Asia and pirate sites are global. {nm} Moviesnob Jul 12, 14:56

Then even more so. If it's been available for months then that is that many less eyes seeing it in the theatre. A shame with this one. {nm} CrockettsMafiaYTD2014 Jul 12, 15:53

Take a wild guess. Now that it can be seen on demand. It's probably not doing very well. {nm} goodvibe61 Jul 12, 14:07

Or it hit its saturation point theatrically. {nm} Moviesnob Jul 12, 14:56

Right. Let's all just keep telling ourselves that. {nm} goodvibe61 Jul 12, 15:06

I just provided some evidence for that above. It you that is in denial. {nm} Moviesnob Jul 12, 15:12
