Movies being shown for only one week get a multiplier of (Weekend * 1.0)
Posted by: RazorHawk on Sep 01, 11:44 in response to Oleg Max's post or 2.2 since its a holiday wknd. it just seems like...
Movies that are only show 1 week are expected to report their box office estimates on Sunday and actual on Mondays (like all normal movies).
Since showing 1 week would be from Friday to the following Thursday, it is likely that the movie will not have somebody in the office on the second Sunday morning to report estimates and/or on the second Monday morning to report actuals.
"anything else movie might make after the weekend is free H$"
Anything else that the movie makes from Monday - Thursday would be included in the second Sunday estimate and Monday actual... which illustrated above, usually does not happen.
Why do movies only being shown 1 week get a 1.0 multiplier? Becuase they are likely to only report the first weekend of box office and then shut down. Then after four weekends the movie would be delisted at box office (which HSX is estimating will be the amount reported after the first weekend).
Ghostbusters is only planned to be shown from Friday 8/29/14 to 9/4/14
9/1/14 - 2.20 mill box office reported
9/4/14 - project offices shut down
9/7/14 - project offices shut down... box office not expected to be reported (2.20 total box office)
9/14/14 - not in release... box office not expected to be reported (2.20 total box office)
9/21/14 - not in release... box office not expected to be reported (2.20 total box office)
9/22/14 - delists at reported box office 2.20 mill (which = opening weekend * 1.0)
*IF* the movie continues beyond one week and *IF* it reports additional box office then that *COULD* be considered "free H$" *IF* the current price is lower than the reported box office amount.
With a one week only showing you are just basically playing the opening weekend (like a OW stock). The stock after adjust will just move randomly until delist.

Is GB30 suppose to cash out tomorrow? not seeing it on the calendar... or do we have 3 more weeks to play it? {nm} Oleg Max Sep 01, 10:53
Why would a stock adjust and then delist the next day? All wide releases are delisted after four weekends... always have, always will {nm} RazorHawk Sep 01, 11:03
why would the adjust be 1.0? and not normal 2.7? {nm} Oleg Max Sep 01, 11:08

It seems the movie will be in theaters until the 4th Sept... meaning I'll have to cover my short. Guess all additional revenue is gravy. Lucky_Muppet Sep 01, 11:29
The addional revenue won't be counted for hsx as stock grosses are only updated if weekend gross is reported, so since it won't be in JDolphin Sep 01, 11:47

GB30 will not necessarily Delist at 2.20 MILL as you suggest - it will Delist at Actual. {nm} RotoHockeyYTD2014 Sep 01, 12:08
