I find it incredibly weird that rice in Japan is considered a "racial stereotype". On what planet? It's a fact, plain and simple.

Some people seriously need to dial down their sensitivity meters.

Is it also racial to assume that Italians eat a lot of pasta?

The term "spaghetti western" is racist?

Or are you actually implying that the Japanese in any way, shape or form are inferior to Europeans and North Americans, and therefore need special  sensitivity settings? You see, I most honestly do not believe that the Japanese themselves see it that way

Rather often, the concern about racism in innocent remarks or jokes is a more intrinsic form of racism in itself. Same goes with the very idea that whites are just about the only real racists, as a basic assumption. Little could be further from the truth.

The offensive part here, however, is yours and charlies notions that your sophistication levels are higher and that you therefore need to police others on the boards. If I were you, I'd reconsider that attitude and perhaps save it for really worthy cases and incidents.

V: Tokyo Vice is scheduled to go into production this summer [TKYOV] Antibody Feb 06, 10:49

Like Miami Vice - but with lots more rice! {nm} Facto Feb 06, 10:56

LOL ! {nm} erhead56 Feb 06, 11:02

it's funny because Asians like to eat a lot of rice! {nm} charlie Feb 06, 11:06

Facto was funny. You're just consistently annoying. {nm} erhead56 Feb 06, 12:00

racial stereotypes are funny? charlie Feb 06, 12:03

Your statement was more racial when you explained why it was funny. {nm} erhead56 Feb 06, 12:19

Pointing out use of a racial stereotype is more racial than using one in an attempted joke? {nm} RogerMore Feb 06, 12:32

It could have been mistaken as a racial statement the way it was written, but I take no side in this one. Sometimes pennystocks2 Feb 06, 12:52

It's clearly stereotyping, but thereès a difference between RogerMore Feb 06, 18:32

Let's try that again - it's clearly stereotyping, but there's a difference between stereotyping and being offensive. RogerMore Feb 06, 18:43

Well, yeah, it was just a rhyme and not a very brilliant one. As for herring, I do love it and I eat a lot of it. Facto Feb 06, 20:45

I made a random rhyme and now there's a racial sensitivity debate going on? I believe Tokyo citizens remain unoffended by my post. Facto Feb 06, 13:05

I found your rhyme funny, never once thought about racial implications. I thought charlie was. My mistake, and erhead56 Feb 06, 13:16

Nah, not your mistake, (I'd say.) {nm} Facto Feb 06, 16:34

Agreed. You can't use the word rice without someone playing the race card. {nm} clusterxxxx Feb 06, 16:43
