If the star gets banned by Chinese government, then the star's movies and TV shows can't be shown in Mainland China market.
Now, every Chinese filmmakers (including the filmmakers of Hong Kong and Taiwan) makes movies primarily for Mainland China market. (It is the reason why many recent Hong Kong film did very well in Mainland China, but bombed badly in Hong Kong)
Very few Chinese filmmakers are willing to hire the stars who get banned by Chinese government.
