Yesterday we discussed which sci-fi should get the reboot treatment next. If you consider Spider-Man as 'proper sci-fi,' then it would appear that's the answer. 'Sony Pictures decided today to reboot the Spider-Man franchise after Sam Raimi pulled out of Spider-Man 4 because he felt he couldn't make its summer release date and keep the film's creative integrity. This means that Raimi and the cast including star Tobey Maguire are out. There will be no Spider-Man 4. Instead, the studio will focus on a reboot script by Jamie Vanderbilt with a new director and a new cast.'"
LATIMES: [SPID4] filming expected to begin before the end of year with a budget of around 230 million (less than Raimi felt he needed)

the way I read it, there is no budget for the new film yet. The $230M was what the studio had approved for Raimi & it wasn't enough for him

230m does sound low when your target is a billion dollar box office.

Sony's "official" production budget for SPID3 was 258 million but most believe it was closer to 300-350.

WOLVE is believed to be about 150 million (though Fox's official budget is 130)

So (one would assume) 230m is enough for SPID4. Plus, with a younger cast, they could get some lesser known stars for cheaper

Depends on 3D, talent, etc.... I'd imagine 200 would be the goal. Most of the key talent/etc were profit participants.

Didn't they already expect to begin filming with a locked in director and cast. Hoping is not a good strategy.
