"an effort ... to both grow revenue in a rapidly evolving entertainment environment and to maintain the value of exhibition"

I don't see how this will grow overall revenue, rather I think it's an experiment to see if costs can be lowered more than revenue, which is good for Paramount and could go either way for theaters.  In this particular case, a horror movie that makes most of it's money in the first couple of weeks, it's probably good for both sides.

With more information on total costs and revenues this would be much more interesting IMO.  As it is we have very little beyond the press releases.

This rev share is groundbreaking, but can you trust Hollywood accounting? {nm} Antibody Jul 08, 11:21

paramount's been working on this for some time. they believe its in their best interest so if theaters smell funny accounting they will Moviesnob Jul 08, 11:29

This is the first step to blockbuster day and date release. {nm} Antibody Jul 08, 11:31

i dont know if it will be day and date. Paramount wants to run their big titles in theaters for 3-5 weeks {nm} Moviesnob Jul 08, 11:34

NPR said Paramount is adopting this model for all their movies before year end {nm} Chateau_du_Mal_Voisin Jul 08, 22:54

V: its not clear if other major exhibitors like Regal and Cinemark will show the films. Antibody Jul 08, 11:37

WSJ: If no other exhibitors agree to the new terms, Paramount will still release the movies with just those two chains, said Mr. Moore Antibody Jul 08, 11:40

Paramount is probably the one studio that is trying to think out of the box right now. Most the others will be waiting to see what happens {nm} Moviesnob Jul 08, 11:46

It's also possible Regal and Cinemark will go on the offensive and refuse to play any Paramount titles {nm} notfabio Jul 08, 13:20

"go on the offensive" meaning burying their heads deeper in the sand {nm} Moviesnob Jul 08, 14:55

almost all costs are in the initial release. the thinking is digital/TVOD revenue will be much higher with a much earlier window Moviesnob Jul 08, 12:29

if you assume that theaters are already capturing 100% of the available ticket sales now, i.e., everyone who wants to see a film in theaters slipping jimmy Jul 08, 12:30

according to mojo, the last paranormal activity was only in theaters for 7 weeks {nm} Moviesnob Jul 08, 12:32
