Has anyone else read this? Can you explain to me why it's considered a hot property and not just creepy and gross?

The protagonist's decision to wake Aurora (ha-ha...) from her slumber is tantamount murder. And underneath the cutsey robotic wooing is a mindset that strikes me as, well, rapey.

SPOILERS TO FOLLOW:

The script contains elemens of hard scifi that invite the reader to ask questions about the Randian culture of the future and the logistics of intergalactic space travel, but then act three makes no effort to account for the actualities of these rules.

For example, they can't turn around and return to earth because the speed up/slow down time for a ship traveling at near lightspeed make this impossible. But then later, the ship's main engine malfunctions and they have to repair it. In this case EVERYONE ON BOARD WOULD WAKE UP YEARS, IF NOT DECADES EARLY. They have to slow down from light speed to reset the engines, which means that everyone is screwed.

And the bit where Jim wakes up a *third* passenger off-screen and then said passenger dies like 10 pages later?

I must be crazy because everyone else thinks this script is the bees-knees, but I found it utterly loathsome.

He is playing Arthur, the charming robotic bartender. One of the best parts of the middling script. {nm} tawdryhepburn Jul 17, 11:48

Middling script leads to mediocre movie? {nm} lesana Jul 17, 11:56

Long Story Short: Chris Pratt's character is ethically repulsive and the script plays with hard SciFi, then abandons internal logic. {nm} tawdryhepburn Jul 17, 12:04

Lol you're an idiot. Sorry, but that assessment deserves to be called out. {nm} doitdoitdoitnow Jul 17, 12:47

Care to elaborate? I understand that most people love this script. But the prat falls and queesy ethics turned me off big time. tawdryhepburn Jul 17, 13:08

Comments inside. doitdoitdoitnow Jul 17, 18:47

That sounds different from the draft I read. tawdryhepburn Jul 17, 19:24

Scrubbed for spoilers? {nm} tawdryhepburn Jul 17, 13:09

Yes, that read like a massivev spoiler that completely changes one's sympathy for the character. {nm} Antibody Jul 17, 13:42

Understood. Apologies. To anyone who saw the previous post THAT IS NOT THE PLOT OF THE MOVIE. tawdryhepburn Jul 17, 13:50

That's good to know. {nm} Antibody Jul 17, 14:46
