Late spring (1949) is very fine.
I think it is "Late spring" which has the lovely long sequence at a Noh theatre performance, and much else of course.
"Ikiru" (1952) is quite something, too; I knew of it a long time ago, and I don't think I have seen it since seeing Ozu. It was the BFI "top 100" from four or five years ago which brought "Tokyo Story" to my attention. Ozu was not taught in the courses I did c. 1985 in Toronto. Kurosawa and Mizoguchi were.
