The failure of Hardcore Henry this weekend represents the failure distribution has in not relying more in non traditional release strategies
There was a path for real profit with that film with a release that wasnt 3k screens. But the producers got seduced by a $10mil upfront and the promise of a wide release so they took the upfront dollars and ran. Its not for everyone but the movie hits a sweet spot for a really big audience. STX's release strategy was not the path to that audience.
Distributors and exhibitors need to move with the times. Folks are consuming content in so many different ways. Distributors need to give people want they want and how they want it.
I'm really sad about his release because this failure is failure not just for this film, but for where we are right now in how to release movies.
