It's not the fact that they cast women that's the problem

Posted by: TwoMisfits (a.k.a del_SCA_TwoMisfits) on Jul 14, 08:54 in response to chosenone2oo5's post Here's some funny: it's mostly the female movie critics...

It's the crappy execution of the previews, and if you believe Roeper (and I do), the crappy execution of the entire new movie that's the problem.

But, for the record, as a female member of society, I've watched and enjoyed every one of the "bro" movies you listed (in fact, Ghostbusters 1 I just showed to my own kids, boys and girls, 6 months ago again and I still loved the movie and they did, too - the comedy holds up well).  Nothing about Ghostbusters says you had to be a guy or a "bro" to like it - it was a well done 80s comedy movie, just like many of the ones you listed and it had many female fans (I mean, no movie would be a classic if it didn't hit the 4 quadrants)...Nothing said they had to make a movie for a single quadrant (in fact, that would be pretty ill-advised) - they just needed to make a good movie that catered to all of their previous fans and tried to bring in new ones.  Tying the movies together would have been the easiest (and likely best) way to do it (ala Star7), but there were other ways, and none of those ways included casting all male leads.

See, I'm now wading into the "stupid" on the other side today - I think I agree with whoever posted that they can't wait for this movie to just release and be done with.  Perspective seems to be so lost by people on all sides when you can't just say "I loved the new movie" or "This movie sucks" without having the weight of 50% of the population either calling you an SJW or a mysogenistic hater.

I mean, no one jumps on me for saying A League of Their Own was awesome or Moulin Rouge sucked...or The Expendables was great but Dumb and Dumber sucked...why does this movie have to be any different?  Yes, I know the movie brought some (note the word some, not all) of it on itself with its own publicity campaign and supporters, but c'mon, we're better than that here...

Look at the disconnect between what GHST3 stock traders and GHST3 Derivatives traders are expecting for OW. Now that's a true arb {nm} tomcat90 Jul 13, 18:51

How is that a true arb? If anything, to me that speaks to how difficult this one is to predict. {nm} Hersheybar Jul 13, 19:06

arb in the wall street sense, not how it is mis-used on HSX. You could lock in over $600k (after comm.) risk free {nm} tomcat90 Jul 13, 19:14

The same thing happened for IDAY2. Great for arb or synthetic short @ FILM.OW * 2.7 {nm} stormgod Jul 13, 20:56

Here's some funny: it's mostly the female movie critics giving GHST3 the positive reviews. How political is that?? chosenone2oo5 Jul 13, 23:16

I think Paul Feig should do Animal House next, right? {nm} Catzan Jul 13, 23:37

Yeah! And what about "Porky's?" Or "Caddyshack?" Or "Stripes?" Or "Revenge of the Nerds?" Or "Weird Science?" Paul Feig = salivating. chosenone2oo5 Jul 14, 00:46

Neighbors 2 Sorority Rising kinda covered "Animal House that was at 120 too delisted at 53..... {nm} Baron_Darcon Jul 14, 02:19

PINK2 - Duh! {nm} dukeness Jul 14, 10:13

No, "Pretty in Pink" is a John Hughes chick flick--Feig is too easy a pick for that. We were picking '80s dude movies. Keep up. {nm} chosenone2oo5 Jul 14, 11:27

dukeness is joking. Keep up. {nm} RogerMore Jul 14, 11:58

Not all of those were dudes movies. I'm female and loved Caddyshack, Stripes, and Revenge of the Nerds! {nm} JDolphin Jul 14, 12:20

Right - funny. If you actually do some quantification... click999 Jul 14, 07:34

Doesn't matter. Ghostbusters is for dudes, man! No girls allowed! {nm} stevie1der328 Jul 14, 08:31

It's not the fact that they cast women that's the problem TwoMisfits Jul 14, 08:54

+1, I welcome the opinion! Here's a fresh perspective, forum! {nm} chosenone2oo5 Jul 14, 11:26
