Hey brother...

Posted by: stolberg on Aug 01, 16:22 in response to chosenone2oo5's post I'm the one who's trolled! chosenone2oo5 here--seems...

...I undestand your frustration, but I agree with TwoMisfits, lashing out at people who have already broken in is not going to help you succeed.  And a "college piece of paper" has nothing to do with most screenwriters' success. One of my favorite writers, Woody Allen, got kicked out of college in his first year... and it didn't seem to stop him. Ben Affleck went to my college (UVM), but also dropped out after one semester (he still got an Oscar for best screenwriting).

Look, I'm not here to criticize or have a flame war with you.  I hop on to HSX every once in a while to trade and see what people are thinking about movies.  I'm not here to have fights.  I'm a movie lover like most people on these boards.

For all I know you're a MUCH better writer than me.  I hope you are.  And I hope someone sees it and you have an amazing career.  But no one will if you spend your time trashing people instead of trying to understand WHY they get their work seen instead of you (hint: it's not a college education).  Like my grandmother used to say, it's possible to make your own flame burn brighter without blowing someone else's out.

Cheers and best wishes. Truly.

Josh

Watched Cabin in the Woods with my kid today and LOVED it. :-) And just saw I got trolled by chosenone2oo5. :-( stolberg Jul 31, 22:04

mine was Alien. Thanks Dad! {nm} Moviesnob Jul 31, 22:12

I also saw this on video way too young (thanks to a dad:)... TwoMisfits Aug 01, 06:21

I have a recollection of being in the back seat of the car while my parents watched Barberella at the drive-in when I was 2, mantleclinic Aug 01, 08:26

Sorry, meant for the above to be on the general thread, but I did see Alien in '79 for my 12th birthday. {nm} mantleclinic Aug 01, 08:28

The drive in is the perfect place for that film (although maybe not at 2). :-) {nm} stolberg Aug 01, 10:13

Gotta love Alien! And gotta love DADS! {nm} stolberg Aug 01, 10:14

In the theater, The Lost Boys was mine. {nm} Willroast Jul 31, 22:27

Have much respect for Cabin in the Woods, breaks down barriers... Wrath_crfd Jul 31, 22:35

hehe. {nm} stolberg Aug 01, 10:15

Um, Police Academy. {nm} Qix Jul 31, 22:39

Is Qix an alias for Bill Clinton? {nm} stolberg Aug 01, 10:16

Ha! Just a pleb. {nm} Qix Aug 01, 14:56

Not sure, but I think mine was Quick Change back in 1990. {nm} ~JPV~ Jul 31, 23:14

Congrats on saw! Please help lgf get back on track {nm} djgrimlok Aug 01, 02:49

+1 {nm} Qix Aug 01, 04:06

Thanks. !!!!! {nm} stolberg Aug 01, 10:16

I had 2 older brothers. Think I was subjected to Robocop, Aliens, and Child's Play well before I was 10. {nm} numbersix_99 Aug 01, 03:26

Pay no mind to chosenones's comment, he had nothing substantative to say. My first proper R rated film... RickandMorty Aug 01, 06:07

Yes!!!! I love those parents SOOOO much. Great story. {nm} stolberg Aug 01, 10:17

Terminator on video when I was 6 was my 1st (yes, really)... TwoMisfits Aug 01, 06:19

I'd definitely see your movie over 50 Shades of Saw. Terminator 2 was my first in theatres. Probably Aliens if we're counting VHS {nm} RogerMore Aug 01, 06:37

Maybe Stripes was my first R...but seriously...Jaws? rated PG? I was 10 when I saw that and did NOT go in the ocean for years. YEARS! {nm} Catzan Aug 01, 07:15

I know, Jaws as PG13 is ludicrous. But love that film so much. {nm} stolberg Aug 01, 10:18

I had to look it up, too: I'd thought it might have been R. Among my first would have been "Raging Bull" and "Apocalypse Now." second gary Aug 01, 10:37

cant remember exactly. i remember rambo first blood part 2 in theater at 12 yrs old without parents. w/my brother 10. the ticket guy islander Aug 01, 07:26

Yeah, those were the days - I snuck into my 1st theater R movie White Men Can't Jump at an age I'd rather not admit:) TwoMisfits Aug 01, 09:00

Ha! Yes, I skipped class with some friends and snuck into First Blood 2 on the opening day. {nm} stolberg Aug 01, 10:19

My dad took me to see Conan the Barbarian in the theater back in '82. I had just turned 6. Mom wasn't too excited about that. {nm} pnw_wildcat Aug 01, 08:20

Once again... gotta love Dads!!! {nm} stolberg Aug 01, 10:20

Another one I saw on video way too young (probably younger than I could appreciate it) TwoMisfits Aug 01, 10:21

I'm the one who's trolled! chosenone2oo5 here--seems they'd rather pick someone w/ a college piece of paper than someone who knows "Saw." chosenone2oo5 Aug 01, 12:09

Chosen - look at it as an opportunity, not a setback... TwoMisfits Aug 01, 12:22

Hey brother... stolberg Aug 01, 16:22

You're the man {nm} Moviesnob Aug 01, 18:29
