For the record, I'm not one of these people. I was a part of the era that helped build "Rotten Tomatoes." I think we still need it.

But the whole problem is whether you should even "know" about a film's quality before seeing it. Pre internet, you'd go see a movie cold.

Absolutely. One time seeing "The Garbage Pail Kids Movie," and I literally never want to go into any movie cold again, ever.

Pre internet you would see the reviews in the newspaper while looking up movie times or you would watch Siskel and Ebert.
