early F&F) none of them were on the same "$1 billion in worldwide" revenues as Pirates, LoTR, Dark Knight, Marvel universe, Transformers, Potter, etc are.

Obviously the direction has changed since then with the movies you mentioned, plus Pitch Perfect, the upcoming slate of monster movies like The Mummy, and failed attempts at franchise making like Neighbors 2, Ted 2, etc
