I think you have to look case by case. In this specific case, it's the lead role, and also most of the other roles in the movie.
So it's different than, say, black and Asian people in Asgard. It's also different from the Spider-Man example - Peter Parker still exists.
i haven't seen the movie, or the original anime, so I'm not really judging myself - but at the same time I'm happy to listen to people who have seen the movie and the anime, and be guided by their opinion. It's the "this couldn't possibly be racist" opinion that annoys me.
