script doctor - hired to help the already written script fix something that is broken (adding humor, rewrite a scene that isnt working, writing a new scene to add to the movie to fix a problem)
[Carrie Fisher was famous for being a script doctor (adding humor)...Hook, Leathal Weapon 3, The Wedding Singer... all her funny lines in The Last Jedi were not in the script but were written by her]
re-write - hired to take a previously created concept/story and rewrite the script (usually to change the tone...more scary... more funny ... more romantic... less scary ...and/or to fit a set budget)
[The New Mutants has had its release date pushed back so they could rewrite the script... the script they shot was a superhero movie with a few scary scenes and now the studio wants it to be more of a horror movie that happens to star superheros... before: lots of superhero/little scary.... later: lots of scary/little superhero]
page one re-write - hired to throw away everything done before and start over from scratch with a new concept/storyline
[The Batman had a script from Ben Affleck and when they hired a new director, the new director threw out Affleck's script and started a page one re-write (started from scratch - with a whole new idea/concept)]
