How many of last year's Original Screenplay nominees did you watch?
Those were all fantastic, not to mention Phantom Thread, The Post, Dunkirk, Coco, and Split (essentially original) among those not nominated. Did you watch Game Night or A Quiet Place? I see this as more of an audience problem; people simply do not watch original movies in favor of franchise fare and then complain about the lack of originality.
