.. some of your points are not relevant. There's certianly no rape, but the important point is that character is prioritised over action and violence, at throughout most of the movie. Now it's use of humour to make the excessive violence more pallatable is more questionable, but this hasn't overly affected the film reviews over on this side of the pond, that have all been extremely positive (including The Guardian's 5-star review).

I never said Kick-Ass wasn't a parody. But I do distinguish between its sense of parody (i.e. the divergence between superhero fantasy and the attempt to obtain that) and that of the typical spoof movie which is just referential. This sense of being placed in "reality" was very evident to me as I watched the trailer (I had never heard of the comic) and anyone Ive discussed this with.

There may be better comics at this post-superhero concept but the point is that we're talking about this film, and most importantly, it worked on more than one level.

Is Kick-Ass actually starting to track better? MiyazakiFan Apr 05, 06:42

Tracking was in the 20's last time Notfabio posted. David Wells said Death at the Funeral was tracking better. So either Death is a mega gogreen Apr 05, 06:51

Tracking was in the 20s from Reel Source who also predicted over $80 million for Clash. secretstalker Apr 05, 07:13

We should ask horlicks, the Twitter expert, what he thinks... surely it's gotta be on there already. {nm} secretstalker Apr 05, 07:13

Its tracking amazingly well on Twitter. 4200 tweets last week. Ninja Assassin by comparison had 1700. horlicks Apr 05, 13:28

FWIW, KCKAS is already playing in theaters in Europe. {nm} Antibody Apr 05, 13:59

Definitely a factor in number of tweets. There are for instance a lot of Twitter users in the UK. {nm} Facto Apr 05, 14:23

Yes that does make a difference, but its factored into my ratio estimate and total. {nm} horlicks Apr 05, 15:23

Would be fantastic to find out what tracking service and/or bureau the Los Angeles Times (LAT) uses... Facto Apr 05, 07:38

Death at a Funeral is not likely to make anywhere near WDIG2 numbers, I'd say. It's got direct competition from WDIG2 itself, it has no Jane Facto Apr 05, 07:24

Different audience. The older, African-Amercan female fans of TPERR and WDIG2 are not gonna see the vulgar DEFUN. {nm} Antibody Apr 05, 08:57

I think word-of-mouth is going to play a huge factor with this movie. It has been released in parts of Europe and... numbersix_99 Apr 05, 07:21

Actually can anyone enlighten me .. What is the main difference between kick **** and superhero movie [SHERO] , which flopped? {nm} karspov Apr 05, 07:45

Kick @ss is ironic, and Superhero Movie is a spoof. The difference is intelligence {nm} numbersix_99 Apr 05, 07:58

Millar's style of irony isn't very intelligent... and his work IS parody. mikeybbbbb Apr 05, 09:14

Genre, for one, to go by the trailers: SHERO the thin SPIDM parody and KCKAS the coming-of-age geek transformation story played straight. {nm} second gary Apr 05, 07:59

KCKAS is very much a parody as well, just more subversive. {nm} Antibody Apr 05, 09:48

SHERO was a spoof, Kick-Ass is based off a graphic novel (already has fanbase) and has actual action in it. Big difference. {nm} HurricaneKid Apr 05, 07:59

Spoof movies haven't been successful in the better part of a decade. {nm} MiyazakiFan Apr 05, 08:51
