Hairspray 2 is dead according to Adam Shankman
A while ago someone asked Adam Shankman on Twitter about Hairspray 2:
"Why on EARTH are you making Hairspray 2? We don't need another Funny Lady. So unnecessary!
His answer: "we aren't." (Source)
Since that was not 100% clear, someone else asked him then if he could clarify if the project was "officially dead" to which he replied:
"new line decided it was best to not go forward. All of us involved agreed, though we loved ideas. Hey, nvr say nvr. Just 4 now." (Source)
I don't think it's a surprise considering that John Waters had submitted his treatment more than 15 months ago and they still hadn't hired a writer. And getting Travolta and Efron back was not only uncertain but unlikely.
