To be brutally honest, I've never heard such a dumb term as "toxic fandom," and such. It reminds me when the term "Fanboy," and "Fangirl," was introduced by elite critics to make fun of the ComicCon crowd a decade ago. As a fan you always should comment on the direction of your favorite franchises, in fact, it should be encouraged more. A dumb Film exec doesn't execute any film bottom lines in profitability, fans do.
Today, the fanbase embraced the "Fan" terms and made it their own. We currently are having the dumbest debates over what a film is "saying" instead of what its promoting. At then end of the day people have to pay money to see films, you won't get many fans wanting to buy into opionion columns trying to mimic high budget feature films. The business model just isn't there.
We've seen Disney produce a ton of flops in recent memory, and could potentially damage their brand going forward. Without a Disney leading the way, the box office is scattered and direction less. They're buying Fox (in panic I believe) trying to get ahead of the "streaming" storm, but its just excuse making for losing fanbases.
Change is needed. HTDYD 3 and Battle Angel were both still pretty good and should be commened for helping lighten such a terrible box office frame, but enough with the "we're going to embarass our own fans" syndrome thats just killing our business.
That is all.
