I think the deal that Netflix tried to do with AMC on THE IRISHMAN (or close to it) might be the middle-ground going forward.

Ultimately there is going to be some kind of partial window collapse in a post-COVID 19 world, the genie is out of the bottle and no exhibition chain is going to entirely put that genie back in with every studio that survives either having their own or a significant stake in a streamer and a couple of weeks is still better than nothing.
It doesn't help that the execs heading studios now for the most part have little or no exhibition background and increasingly have less desire to even pretend theatrical is anything but a speedbump.
That no one is batting an eye in retail as Disney chops months off retailer home video sales for Onward/STAR9 to go direct to Disney+ is still a little surprising to me.
