HSX FUTURE EP. 2: A NEW HOPE
A message for the HSX community
The big news is that there is news – and it is good news – about HSX, five months after it was at risk of demise!
The HSX Future Community Board’s project to enable the Hollywood Stock Exchange to survive and thrive continues. In this message, we have (1) cause for optimism among those looking toward HSX’s future; (2) a status report concerning our current circumstances; and (3) a summary for those who wish to learn how we got here.
HSX FUTURE
We – the HSX Future Community Board, a group of volunteers – continue to engage in direct, productive, collaborative communication with senior management at Cantor Fitzgerald, which owns and has developed the HSX gamesite for two decades.
Cantor Fitzgerald recognizes and appreciates the efforts of the HSXers to keep this gamesite operational and, we are pleased to report, has indicated it now shares our desire to keep the HSX gamesite alive while devising and implementing a long-term plan for overdue HSX improvement. We cannot promise anything, but talks are sparked with optimism.
We have adequate funds to maintain HSX operations through 2020. We told HSX supporters we would ask them to provide the second half of their funding pledges in November or December, and that may occur as planned (but as of today we are not starting this new campaign while we wait for more info). We are discussing finances with Cantor Fitzgerald – including funding of several essential software fixes due by yearend – and expect to have more information about HSX finances relatively soon.
HSX PRESENT
HSX is still alive five months after being rescued by the HSX community! We possess operational control of the gamesite; we have a stable foundation of traders and trading; and we are positioned to fund foreseeable expenses while arranging a long-term solution at HSX.
Every HSXer is indebted to Antibody, who continues to provide first-rate gamesite content management nearly a half-year after departing employment at Cantor Fitzgerald, and the man that keeps the website functioning from a software standpoint (who has asked not to be named), whose website technical services are indispensable and appreciated. These two gentlemen are the heroes of the HSX survival story.
We have introduced several new features (sports and political options; movie release options; increased shareholding limits for each trader) and continue to explore innovations to stimulate interest and trading.
HSX PAST
Our project was born in late May, when Antibody was let go and it looked like the site would wither away. A few longtime traders assembled to try to identify and solve the problems confronting HSX, creating the HSX Future Community Board. A successful crowdfunding – requesting payment of half of pledged funds for the second half of 2020 and expecting the other half for 2021 – generated enough funds to avoid closure and maintain operations to this day.
Working with Cantor Fitzgerald, we obtained control of the gamesite; put Antibody back in the content ****pit; arranged uninterrupted website maintenance; resumed market integrity; and revived the HSX trading calendar.
