I give up on TOMB4. Wheatley was a great choice. A directorial debut based not on merit but on gender, however? No one takes it seriously.

This is self-parody levels of identity politics insanity. I'm going to need an Oscar-worthy response from the audience (not the biased Bolshevik film critics) before I'd consider seeing this B.S. sequel now. I may even elect to forget purchasing the reboot on home media at all now, since it'd creatively be considered a one-off with a knock-off two-dimensional propagandic sequel.
My favorite Tomb Raider film is still "Lara Croft: Tomb Raider (2001)," directed by Simon West--and it doesn't hurt that Angelina Jolie padded up to a 36D for her audience. The film may be a 5/10 critical analysis, BUT THE AUDIENCE MADE IT A SUMMER 2001 BOX OFFICE SMASH HIT. THE AUDIENCE LOVED IT, AND THEY PAID TO SEE IT. IT WAS FUN, IT WAS A RIDE, IT WAS FUNNY, IT WAS COOL, IT WAS AN ENGAGING CINEMATIC EXPERIENCE. Can 34AA Alicia Vikander say the same...? Or did her film gross in its total domestic run what Angelina made in just her opening weekend alone. because Alicia's was comparably BORING?
That's what I thought. I'm right, and Hollywood will always be wrong so long as they persist to hire unqualified individuals based on race and gender to tell stories that require professional craftsmen and writers in order to bring the audience in. Absolutely profoundly idiotic.
How many times must we go through this exercise before they realize this is NOT the way to make money, ever? Subpar products come from China sweatshops because they can do no better--here in Capitalist America, innovation and product quality is what the people demand, and they WILL get it...one way, or another. But, because Hollywood has chosen to stop supplying quality and would rather provide lazy complacent Communist dogma in its stead, clearly, THAT is why Hollywood's box office is in the toilet, and will stay there until a GOOD film finally arrives. In the meantime, all the value of all these long-dormant IPs will cease to be, as they're shooting their brands in the face one-by-one until there will be no more films: Hollywood itself will no longer be able to afford to make one ever again if they keep this up.
I don't mind if they go broke and starve--I'm just so surprised they really, really want to ruin their careers, their reputations, their studios, and the food on their families' tables so fervently, so obsessively, so desperately, so willfully. I guess even Alicia could afford to lose a few pounds, huh?
