IDK, it seems like a 180 from their previous strategy

They have treated theatrical as the competition, now they are going to depend on it to drive up their subscriptions?  And if they are going to, why do it in such a half-assed fashion?  If they want big theatrical numbers for PR then why limit the number of screens so much?  More screens would mean bigger BO numbers which would be better PR.  Maybe its just my paranoid, suspicious nature :) but something doesn't add up to me.

Cinemark made a deal with Netflix to show Army of the Dead across its domestic circuit [ARMYD] Antibody May 04, 13:07

"While this is the first wide release of a Netflix film at Cinemark theatres, the companies anticipate there will be more to come. " {nm} Antibody May 04, 13:08

Army of the Dead also happens to be setup as a title on AMC Theatres (no tickets on sale so iffy) notfabio May 04, 13:11

Might just be hope for a Christopher Nolan Netflix Film yet.... {nm} notfabio May 04, 13:17

this is only getting a 7 day window and Nolan's not happy with the Netflix theatrical dynamic internationally. Moviesnob May 04, 13:19

Nolan (at least for now) is his own little island, INTL is where it gets tricky (i.e. like the windows in France) {nm} notfabio May 04, 13:25

its just crazy that theaters painted themselves into this corner where Netflix has all the leverage {nm} Moviesnob May 04, 13:28

I spent about an hour at a holiday party in 2019 debating this very thing with the EIC of Box Office. (Not Shawn) {nm} TheWeekendWarrior May 04, 13:36

When Netflix hired Stuber, theaters had an ally at Netflix and they blew it {nm} Moviesnob May 04, 13:43

hiring Spencer Klein was supposed to be way forward with theaters but... {nm} Moviesnob May 04, 13:45

IW: Per sources, it will be joined by other circuits for a total of around 600 screens. Antibody May 04, 13:18

I tried out a few other upcoming Netflix titles to see if they were online at AMC and nope, Army of the Dead is it for now. {nm} notfabio May 04, 13:21

Smart move by the theaters cause the Army of the Snyder will sell these out. {nm} TheWeekendWarrior May 04, 13:29

Yeah, I expect these to do well as well, imagine if Netflix surprise reports box office and it beats out SPIRAL? {nm} notfabio May 04, 13:33

If ARMYD beats Spiral, Netflix would be foolish not to report. {nm} Antibody May 04, 14:11

What does Netflix gain by reporting? {nm} DTravel May 04, 15:28

Number one movie at the box office on all the headlines and TV shows. {nm} Antibody May 04, 15:42

Would they really care about that? Their business model doesn't seem like one that would gain any great benefit from it. {nm} DTravel May 04, 18:57

Yes it does, free publicity to get people to sign up and watch ARMYD on Netflix. {nm} Antibody May 04, 20:51

IDK, it seems like a 180 from their previous strategy DTravel May 04, 21:19

YouOu got it backwards. It's the theaters chain that refused to book Netlfix and limited their screens until now. {nm} Antibody May 05, 08:03
