In 2019, Brown became the first Black woman to run a film label at a major studio when she was handed the TriStar reins. She has put her stamp on the specialty label’s slate, namely with the Whitney Houston musical biopic I Wanna Dance With Somebody, which is about to begin production. The Women in Film board member also is overseeing Matilda (co-produced with Netflix), the Viola Davis starrer The Woman King, and the Dakota and Elle Fanning-led The Nightingale. Further out on the TriStar horizon is a Baby Driver sequel, a new Guys and Dolls, and Phil Lord and Chris Miller’s Last Human.
