Pent up demand. You can say all you want about pent up demand but it doesn't.....

drive box office numbers. It may help OW numbers, especially a sequel that is not established or doesn't have a built in fan base that needs the extra exposure because it wasn't seen by many in theaters the first time and the fan base increases because people are exposed to it on DVD and TV. But, Twilight is established. LOTR was established (and they were quality movies). Total box office is not determined by pent up demand but by quality. The die-hards will be there regardless of how little or long of time it is between movies. Quality will determine if the see the movie more than once or twice. Quality will also drive WOM which will bring in the rest. Quality will determine if people will want to see a or another sequel And right now Hollywood has very little quality or original ideas. Between sequels, reboots and every comic book character getting his/her own movie it is becoming a joke. Come on, did we need a remake of Fame or do we need one of Footloose? Do we need a movie about Lego's? What's next Tonto:The Early Years Before the Ranger? But I am off subject. If pent-up demand determined box office, Phantom Menace would have grossed over $1 billion. The quality wasn't there and it faltered. Pent up demand is not going to help Cats and Dogs II and it has been 9 years since the first.
Ok, I have a real problem with an assumption in this article from Box Office Mojo mrbeankc Jun 30, 21:28
Kill Bill 2, and others. I think it is a trend {nm} OdysseusG Jun 30, 21:51
you are correct, they both were bad films {nm} magicdreamer Jun 30, 21:55
i agree. Quality is the issue. as noted by the exceptions stated. {nm} Lathe Jun 30, 21:58
The third Matrix did poorly because the second one didn't connect with the audence the way the first one did. {nm} RogerMore Jul 01, 03:55
I disagree with an assumption of yours too. PIRT3 didn't do poorly and it wasn't a bad film. TheSureThing Jul 01, 05:46
It wasn't a great film. It was the only one of the pirates films I saw just one time. And, I wasn't the magicdreamer Jul 01, 07:26
