The business models for that would closely follow the fantasy sports pay games

Sporting News had a pt game that charged $10 for a flat entry w/no other charges....ran for a couple of years (3-5 maybe) and died last year. That was their most successful run as their other 2 tries didn't even get off the ground.
CDM ran tons of fantasy games from the 3 bigs, NHL, NASCAR, PGA and even a couple of weirder ones (horse racing, pro wrestling). Their price points varied by game but floated in the $30-$60 initial fee then charged by the transaction (where they made a bulk of their money). You ended up spending probably $300-500 if you were competitive throughout the game. Pricey but they lasted for 20 years.
The CDM model could work....the thing that probably killed it were the free services from Yahoo and CBS....which an HSX type game doesn't have to worry about yet. The problem is the pricing point would have to be similar to survive......is everyone willing to spend $300? Multiple entries for $30-50 each, then spend the $500 on the one that got off to the best start...is the dedication to the game there for that type of thing.
My thought....its possible. The CDM model doesn't work for a niche game. SN's flat fee model could work, but it would have to be run bare bones for a way higher flat fee (Server and employee costs et all would have to be a known variable before I'd lay a guess).
Personally I wouldn't throw good money at it but somebody might see something I don't.
Out of interest.. Somerset Jul 01, 22:30

Just some game where people (most of whom are in the movie biz) try to predict the top 10 summer movies in order Apokalips Jul 01, 22:46
Yeah, I considered saying that seemed inappropriate, as HSX was still around. But if it was HSX, like it is now, yeah, I'd consider it. {nm} Facto Jul 01, 22:47
