then there's a surprising degree of alignment on which films to do it with (or a domino effect).
I'd think the choice of those 2 is possibly to do with no announcements at SDCC & ergo potential delays in production/release .. they/he who decide which films to pull down (aka multiple accounts) are also - at least at times - pushing a certain idea while doing it. Then people pile on, seeing big fall/gains. But yes $8-10 fall in 1 day without terrible news is not something I've seen till date, usually it'd be max $3-4 & even that's rare. I just don't see much pt in asking Q's on this anymore. Its how it will be here, increasingly, I suspect. If you try to reverse the trade with a single account, the share'll get hammered even more in the original direction. Go with it as much as you can/want to or forget about it & accept you'll fall behind vs ~100-200 accounts who'll always have greater gains.
As for selling high value shares to get spare cash for buying expensive IPO's, I had to sell stuff to buy IPO's too.. till my account was < $2.5 billion, ever since I've done it from spare cash. Even if you're fully invested in nearly every IPO (full in 1 direction buy/short & even some holding in the opposite trade) of last 5-6 years that's still active, once your account crosses ~$3.5 billion you always have 9 figures spare & the max you need for an IPO is ~ 45m ($300 * 150K). I imagine for the $6 billion+ accounts they'd have a billion $ + spare always (even I do now at sub 5 billion & keep racking my brain as to where else could I put it to productive use - operating word being productive - so not throwing it at 20 year old effectively dead but active IPOs or too many Star bonds hard to keep track of & which don't move much coz they don't have upcoming movies).Ā
There seem to be few genuinely new accounts around that last long (if there are they choose not to chat) enough to become 100s of millions in holdings & start suffering those pangs of choosing b/w current $30m worth movie shares (which you can't own fully until you have $100s of millions) & 40m worth IPOs to buy. That's a phase that only affects you b/w say ~$500m to ~$3 billion portfolio value. Not under or higher (& I've taken a wider range for safety than needed).
