I hadn't seen TWISTER since the original theatrical release, definitely memories were a little fonder than the actual film itself (Philip Seymour Hoffman was great in a role that was totally beneath him) but the Jan De Bont setpieces in general are better than TWISTERS even if the VFX are definitely showing their age. They definitely need to patch things over with Helen Hunt for a TWISTER/TWISTERS combined third film (I don't think she has discussed went down, but cast that was loosely attached to her version made it seem like there was some bad blood), even if TWISTERS was more of a modernized remake.
May have just been my 4DX theatre, but the sound wasn't as good as at I remembered DTS being back in the day (DTS used TWISTERS as a showpiece for YEARS), and there was a weird murky grain smoothing going on. The offroad driving motion and lightning strobing was ramped up to 11, which made the oddly subdued wind and rain effects a little disappointing.
AFRAID hints at going J-horror supernatural, but wisely doesn't, but that said, it was a mistake to open on the AI already behaving badly vs slowly going bad. The best thing about it is the creepy 2021 era AI video.
