Sam Raimi broke every single "World of Warcraft" fan's hearts earlier this month with the announcement that "Oz the Great and Powerful" would be his next movie, but he may have had good reason — if a recently revealed plot synopsis is at all accurate, "Oz" is going to be one heck of a fun time at the movies.
Pajiba has an extensive report on the alleged plot for "Oz," a film that focuses on Robert Downey Jr.'s early days as the Wizard. True to RDJ form, the character sounds like a happy mixture of Tony Stark and Sherlock Holmes with some magic thrown in for good measure.
According to Pajiba, "Oz" focuses on, well, Oz, the great and powerful wizard who is actually something of a con man. Described as "a snake-oil salesman posing as a magician," Oz begins the movie on the run from an angry husband who just discovered that the magician has been sleeping with his wife.
Once he arrives in the Land of Oz, the "fast-talking huckster who wears a velveteen frock coat" (an easily imagined Downey-approved fashion item) falls in love with Glinda the Good Witch and teams up with her to battle the wicked witches of the east and west, Evanora and Theodora. Theodora, it turns out, used to be a good witch, but once Oz refuses her sexual advances, she's convinced by her sister Evanora to join forces in an effort to rule all of Oz.
Evil though they may be, both Evanora and Theodora make up for their bad ways with "incredibly attractive" and "seductive" looks. Indeed, Theodora herself "likes to wear black, thigh-high boots."
To summarize, Raimi's next feature film should be a monster-studded affair with the added bonus of a magically enhanced Robert Downey Jr. juggling an endless amount of sexy witches. Sure, it's not the orc-smashing epic that "Warcraft" could be, but it's a hell of a consolation prize at the very least.
