CONVICTION
Showtime: 11:15 a.m.
Venue: AMC La Jolla 12 (Mid San Diego County, CA)
14 butts / 385 seats (4% full)
Snacks: Just some smuggled-in water and Power Bars.
Trailers: Only made it in time to see True Grit.
Box Office Potential: I worked at this location for about a year and can pretty accurately predict this morning attendance should mean Friday attendance of around 150-175. With an IM of 3.0 and an average ticket price of about $9.25 figuring it'll be pretty senior-heavy, that's $4,150-$4,850 for the weekend. And historically, the theater has been about 10-20% above the national PTA for this type of adult-skewing Searchlight release. So, if forced to make an unscientific guess based solely on the one show, I'd say $4k PTA for the weekend.
My Take: The first act is pretty much straight up Oscar-baity lower-class exploitation, but then it commands the angry wrongfully-accused formula so well that all but the most cynical will be taken in by its spell. I'm a sucker for this kind of thing, so I was pretty involved.
