Since things have sorta calmed down, I thought I'd throw this idea out there again, as it probably got buried the first time around........ copy and pasted from this thread http://www.hsx.com/forum/forum.php?id=6&pid=522
Hoping you read this because board has already rolled. I have some thoughts on fantasy leagues, just because I've played fantasy sports for so long and have seen many different setups. I really think a sort of "Fantasy Football" option to the site would add many new users. Of course, keeping the main premise of the site the same, to just trade your own personal port for at much profit as you can.
1) You could have different lengths of time for the "season".......a season (as is set up now), a year, a certain date range (ex. Jan-April, etc.), etc.
2) You can have two different options for scoring. A) a straight up profit scoring system. Whoever earns the most money during the time period the league is going wins; B) Second you could do profits as a percentage of a portfolio. That way, people with relatively similar port sizes could compete with one another, without the big port having a distinct advantage. Sure you wouldn't pit a small port vs. a big port in this setup, as the small port would almost always win, but there could be a sort of "yellow pages/classifieds" for leagues that designate the sizes of ports currently in the league and you are looking for people with ports between $H X and Y.
3) H2H v. Roto
A) H2H (Head to Head) ; there is a league of 10-16 (sometimes 8, or up to 20) players that play one other team each week. Lets say there is a 4 month playing season. Each week, you play another team. (For simplicity, lets use a straight profit scoring system as mentioned above) If you earn more than the person you are playing that week, you earn a Win, and the other person earns a Loss. The next week, you play another person in the league......continues on until you've played everyone in the league, and then you start playing people for a second time......continues on until the end of the league. So at the end of the 4 month season, you have played roughly 16 games (4 months x 4 weeks/month), and have a record of (example) 10-6. You could set it up two different ways then....either end the league with a champion at the end of the 16 games, or, continue with playoffs, where the best 4 or so teams (based on record) face each other in the playoffs; which would add on two weeks to the length of the league for those four teams that do make the playoffs.
B) Roto (Rotisserie) - This is just straight earning (you can use profits or % profits in this type). At the end of X weeks, person with the greatest profits or greatest % of port profit wins.
I tend to find H2H leagues people stay more active in, because each week is a new opportunity for a W, rather than playing over the whole season. Especially so in this game, where each week would include movie adjusts on Sundays and thus put a premium on getting those right. Yeah, you may need some tiebreakers to see who goes to playoffs in the H2H, but tiebreakers can be easily made (and determined).
And if this is just totally asinine, just forget you read them. Or, if you have any questions, hit me up.
