Other sites where I've talked with people involved in running them have told me that what they do is rent space out to some agency. Then the agency sells the ad space to advertisers, frequently to some other agency that bundles ads based on demographics and target audience. Depending on the contract the website may have no say at all what the ads can be or have limited veto power ("No Porn!").
These Purex ads literally pop up on every single page. You close it, go to another page and it's back. Awful. {nm} May 03, 14:55
