Shorts and why I'm having issues?

I have two set's of stocks that show in my portfolio. I have decided I want to sell them and they are short. Yet when I try to sell them it says I do n ot own them. Can someone help me in my ignorance? I have 50,000 short and 4,114 short on the other.
