The Country Bears is a Disney live-action film inspired by the Country Bear Playhouse, a popular attraction at the Disneyland theme park in Anaheim. Country music numbers and cameos from numerous country music stars appear throughout the family comedy.
The story centers on Beary, a ten-year-old bear raised by a human family. The young bear is unaware that he is adopted until his jealous brother tells him the truth. He leaves home to search for his true purpose in life. Beary ends up in Tennesse, where he finds his mission. To save the historic Country Bear Hall from being torn down, he reunites the Country Bears. He organizes a benefit concert that the band will headline.
Mark Perez wrote the original screenplay, which pokes fun at popular, music documentaries that focus on the rise and fall of a band. He is the first to write a script from the Walt Disney's writer's program, which is comprised of three in-house scribes.
