A Chinese-language martial arts movie, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon chronicles two women in early 19th century China — one is an aristocrat’s daughter with a secret criminal history, the other is China’s most renowned female warrior. In the middle is an ancient sword, the Green Destiny, stolen as it is being passed on by a martial arts master.
Ang Lee, who directed the 1994 Chinese film Eat, Drink, Man, Woman, as well as the American films, The Ice Storm and Sense and Sensibility, directs the film starring Michelle Yeoh, veteran of several Hong Kong films and the 1997 James Bond film, Tomorrow Never Dies, and Chow Yun-fat, veteran of several John Woo films and 1999's Anna and the King.
Described as Sense and Sensibility meets The Matrix, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon has been tearing up the festival circuit and generating Oscar buzz.
