A card-carrying member of the ‘Brat Pack,' Emilio Estevez became one of Hollywood’s most popular, young stars in the go-go ‘80s behind a list of films that are now considered classics in the genre of ensemble drama/comedies defining that decade. In the span of four years between 1982and 1985, Estevez was seen in The Outsiders, Tex, The Breakfast Club, and St. Elmo’s Fire, all of which put him front and center in the Hollywood spotlight along with his comrades. Young starslike Judd Nelson, Demi Moore, Molly Ringwald, Ally Sheedy, Rob Lowe and Anthony Michael Hall all watched as their respective stars shined bright right along with Emilio’s. It was his performance as Andrew, the jock, and Kirby, the love obsessed law student in The Breakfast Club, and St. Elmo ’s Fire, respectively, which highlighted Estevez’s career to that point.
Estevez, who got his initial taste of the acting experience in the early ‘80s on TV shows like To Climb A Mountain and Seventeen Going on Nowhere, segued from the popularity of teen-oriented films into more diverse roles, most notably, Young Guns in 1988. The action-western cast Estevez along with yet another ensemble of who’s who in young talent, with Lou Diamond Phillips, Kiefer Sutherland, and most notably his youngerbrother Charlie Sheen, who was also carving out his own place in Hollywood movies. There certainly should be excellent talent genes in both Emilio and brother Charlie because their father is acting legend Martin Sheen. He reached true heartthrob status as ‘Billy The Kid’ in Young Guns and portrayed the legendary character once again in 1990 for Young Guns II.
